Jack and Carole: Day 1-3

Day 1
Well, Jack and Carole made it safe and sound on Thursday evening. Karleen brought them home and they waited for me to get off work. Carole was really tired so she decided to go to bed. Jack and Karleen came and picked me up from work, then we went to Osho, a great Chinese food restaurant, with Karleen's co-worker Phil. After dinner, we came back to the house and crashed.

Day 2
Carole already started chronicling some of the sights around.

Before work,we took them to see the Nishi Honganji temple around the station.

"The Nishi-Honganji Temple is the headquarters of the Honganji branch of Jodo-Shinshu sect of Buddhism with millions of followers throughout the world. The temple was built in 1571 by the warlord Toyotomi Hidetoshi and is considered one of the finest examples of architecture from the Azuchi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603)"
The main part of the structure is being fixed and won't be open until 2011. It was interesting none the less! There was a very interesting shrine in the side building and had a few sights, like the 2,200 pound rope made out of human hair...yah...HUMAN HAIR! Groovy stuff.

Karleen had to go to work early, so we parted ways after the temple, then I walked Jack and Carole to one of the subway lines to send them to another shrine close by. Then I went to work.
We sent them to the Yasaka-jinja Shrine. It's one of the most popular in Kyoto. The buildings date from 1654, and millions of people come from all over Japan for New Years and Gion Matsuri in July.

They were home when we finished work. Jack and I went out to get some food and we stayed in for the rest of the night.

Day 3
Carole wasn't feeling very well, because she had caught that lovely super bug that's going around Alberta right now. So, Jack, Karleen and I decided to go out sightseeing. We went to the Kiyomizu Temple. It's an unbelievable sight. This temple is one of the places nominated for the New 7 Wonders of the World. The temple was established in 778, and contains buildings from the 15th - 17th century, including a 3 tiered pagoda

As we were leaving, a few Maiko were coming up to the Temple!

We were only there for about an hour or so because it was raining quite a bit. We headed back home and Karleen and I cooked Ham Fettachini and Jack and us watched Fight Club (wasn't one of Jack's favorites, ;) ).

Our living arrangement is that we are all living in one room, so that brings some night time fun. Carole is the conductor is a Symphony of Snoring. She had to poke Jack, then just poke me gently, then the full on yell at Karleen just to stop us snoring. Funny story: Carole was poking Jack so many times the other night because he was snoring, keeping him up. She nudged him twice in less then a minute, then he said "I'm not sleeping!". That's when she realized that it was Karleen the whole time...HA!

This post is only up to Saturday, yet today's Monday. Why you ask? Because, yesterday we went to Himeji Castle and today everyone went traveling, but we forgot to take off the pictures from yesterday! So, Sunday's adventure will be in a few days, and hopefully that one will be up to date!
